For this black and white film photography series, it showcases the real world by demonstrating how beauty can be found in imperfection. This is through the unique style of high contrast and grain to capture unique effects in the shadows and highlights. The photographs display dramatic lighting to emulate the chiaroscuro effects of renaissance paintings. This is achieved by carefully selecting the lighting and environments the subjects are in, and by using a push processing method when developing. The main subject matter consists of abandoned or damaged areas while the other matter has an abstract meaning. Many recurring visual elements display either decay, surreal lighting, grittiness, and or empty space. This is to invoke feelings of abandonment, melancholy, loneliness, and caution. Although these emotionally charged themes seem to suggest gloominess and despair, they are also a narrative. The narrative suggests that there is hope at the end of the tunnel.
